How to Become an AHA BLS (CPR) Instructor
Becoming an American Heart Association instructor is easy after consulting with an American Heart Association Training Center to find out whether the BLS Training Center (TC) is accepting new BLS instructors and the TCC's (BLS Training Center Coordinator) preferred course delivery.
The steps are simple – get started today!
1. Be accepted by a local AHA BLS Training Center before enrolling in an Instructor Course and have a completed Instructor Candidate Application on file with that Training Center. This training center is: Center for Healthcare Education, Inc.
2. Have current AHA provider status in BLS before the Instructor Course and be proficient in all BLS skills including: Infant, Child and Adult CPR/Choking/AED and basic Naloxone administration for opioid overdose. Successfully complete the discipline-specific classroom BLS Instructor Workshop.
3. Successfully be monitored teaching your first course within six months of completing the discipline-specific classroom BLS Instructor Course. Center for Healthcare Education may require additional monitoring.
Note: Certified BLS Instructors will be allowed to teach HeartSaver and Family & Friends CPR courses with no additional coursework. HSVR and/or F&F instructor manuals required for this option. Additional monitoring may be needed.
Once you become a BLS Instructor, you will have access to the most current emergency cardiovascular care science, course updates, training resources and tools through the online AHA Instructor Network.
